January 2007
“Anniversary Edition”
“Celebrating A Quarter Century”
December 7th, 1982, Kingston and District Branch received its charter as a branch of the Federal Superannuates National Association. This year our branch will be celebrating its 25th anniversary of the awarding of that charter.
The initial meeting of the Kingston Branch, FSNA was held in the Wilson Room of the Kingston Public Library on 5 October 1982. The meeting was chaired by the then National Secretary Mr. Frank Lancaster and resulted in the election of the Branch’s first ten member Executive Committee. The committee was composed of Chuck Graham, Roy Brown, Peter Skelton, Al Allan, Fred Bamford, Ian Hodson, Dann Bonnell, Eileen Widdie, Fred Allcorn and Margaret Randall. There were, at the time, approximately 150 members. Remarkably, from this humble beginning, the Branch has now grown to exceed 3000 members.
Planning for the Branch’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations
Early in 2006, a committee was formed to propose ways to commemorate this Anniversary.
Working with the Branch Board of Directors we were able to:
Design and decide upon an anniversary logo to be used;
Based upon the design of the logo, decide upon, order and receive a number of items, such as lapel pins, to be distributed to Branch members, and used for promotional purposes;
Decide to submit an appropriate article for inclusion in the 2007 issue of the Kingston Whig Standard’s “Salute to Volunteers”;
Arrange to have a special social function at the Fort Frontenac Officer’s Mess;
Identify some 80 past and present members of the Executive who will be invited to a Branch birthday luncheon at the Military Communications and Electronics Museum;
Investigate having Kingston, Brockville, Napanee and Westport issue a Proclamation on our behalf; and
Investigate having our federal and provincial representatives make mention of us in their respective legislatures.
Having seen the aforementioned outline of the action we have taken, should you have any further suggestions on how we should commemorate our 25th Anniversary, please contact Jim Hueglin at (613) 634-6092 or jimhueglin@hotmail.com.
Also, enclosed in this package you will find a decal to help us mark this milestone. The decal appears to be backwards because they are intended to be applied to the inside of a glass surface, so they will appear correct when viewed from the outside. It is also a “peel & stick” decal, so there is no need to soak it or moisten it before application.

HELP WANTED
Your Branch continues to grow and thrive!Our numbers continue to increase and this is good, however, it also means more work for the members of the Board of Directors. In the last few years, we feel we have conducted a fairly active social program for our members in addition to the regular board duties. If we are to continue at this level, or perhaps even expand our activities, we need your help. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Please consider volunteering some of your time to keep your branch moving forward!!
It’s not necessary to have any specific skill or talent, just a willingness to help by contributing a few hours a month. However, if you do have a particular interest or skill, we’d like to hear from you.
In particular, we are looking for volunteers in the following areas:
1. Phone committee: More callers are required in different parts of the district. There is no soliciting involved – volunteers simply call our members to remind them of upcoming events.Contact George Healy, Brockville, 613-345-1089 or the Branch office, 613-384-2440.
2. Activities: We need someone to continue planning and organizing our programs or social activities such as our OUTREACH Luncheons. Much of the groundwork has been done – we have records of our past activities.
3. Communications: Advise our members of branch activities and keep them abreast of important matters through newsletters, bulletins and notices, etc, to go into the Branch Report, or by periodic e-mail notices or bulletins. Some computer skills would be handy here.
Without your help, it’s unlikely we will be able to continue with these activities at their present level!!
Please call the 613-384-2440 and leave a message, or contact any of the board members.
Thank you!
