c/o: Box 1172, Kingston, ON K7L 4Y8, Attention Membership DirectorEastern Ontario Regional Newsletter
By:Bevan Painter, Regional Director
Greetings from the Regional Director to all branches in Eastern Ontario.I am starting my second year in this position and hope to do a better job as time passes. Last year when I first took over I felt a little like the young engineer who just graduated. He was explaining his feelings and said, "Just think, a few years ago I could not spell Engineer and now I are one". This is the first newsletter from myself but I plan it to be a regular happening. I hope you all had an enjoyable summer as hot and dry as it was.
Things in the Association have been fairly quiet in the summer but activity will start to pick up now. Next year is the 40th anniversary of the Association. There will be executive meetings held outside of Ottawa in Western and Eastern Canada. These meetings will be attended by the general membership. We are planning to also have one held in Kingston for Central Canada in conjunction with the board meeting in the fall of 2003. National Office would like each branch to organize a special event to celebrate the 40th. I would hope that each branch would choose a different day so I could attend each. The recruitment campaign, I hope will generate a host of new members. The National Membership Committee is going to encourage branches to come up with ways to recruit all people who are eligible to become members. We are currently only about a third as strong as we could be. Just think if each present member recruited one new member we would double our membership.
Changes to the Pensioners' Dental Services Plan (PDSP)
As recommended by FSNA, veterans eligible for coverage under the Veterans Affairs Canada Dental Services Program will no longer be required to pay the PDSP monthly premiums for themselves in order to provide PDSP coverage for their eligible family members. This represents a monthly savings of about $16. As well, eligible veterans who deferred their coverage under the PDSP or who did not enrol in it when they ad the opportunity, now have a new opportunity to cover their family members under the PDSP. For more details, consult FSNA's Dental Plan web page. Members wishing to determine if they qualify should contact the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada as soon as possible at: 1-888-757-7427 (247-5100 in the National Capital Region).Something to think about: Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it won't get you anywhere.
Bye bye for this time. See you at your branch!
