The President’s Message
Fall 2005

It is with profound sadness I announce the passing of our esteemed colleague and dear friend Jim Etherington – (Past) Director of Membership who served this Branch in exemplary fashion. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Stella and family.

Our Past President, Bill Wornes, was recently appointed to the position of FSNA Deputy- Regional Director. His new responsibilities include the supervision of the Eastern Ontario Region – Kingston, Oshawa, Peterborough, Belleville, and Trenton Branches.

For 2005, recruitment is a high priority in our marketing play-book. This branch surpassed the 3000 membership level making us one of the larger branches in the Region. This represents an 18% increase over the same period last year.

Your executive team was invited to the Annual Retirement Seminar at the Staff College for Corrections Canada, at which time we presented how FSNA protects and preserves federal benefits and pensions. The reaction from the participants to becoming Associate Members was overwhelming.

The membership growth, coupled with the volume of member activities, justifies the opening of a first-ever Branch office. We are now housed in the Commissionaires Building at 737 Arlington Park Place in Kingston. In our next report, we will provide the new telephone numbers, e-mail addresses and other necessary coordinates.

In August, our annual BBQ was held at Rideau Acres with some 75 members enjoying seasonal delicacies of – chicken, steak, various summer salads and ice cream, all for 10 $. This was an ideal venue for such an event. The outdoor atrium, surrounded by large mature trees, provided plenty of shade from the bright sunshine on a really warm day.

Prior to the Annual General Meeting, Welch & Company performed their annual audit and found our financial activities, records and transactions to be in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices and standards. This Branch offers its membership good governance, transparency, and accountability.

Jack V. Julian

A Helpful Suggestion:
For those of you who may not be aware, we offer a simple, convenient way of ensuring your membership is
always current and up to date. It’s referred to as “Dues Deducted at Source” and it means never having to
worry about whether or not you have paid for the current year. If you choose this method, Public Works &
Government Services Canada (Pension Office) will simply deduct the small amount of $3.35 for double
membership or $2.50 for single membership, each month from your superannuation (pension) cheque. Many of
our members have already chosen this method of payment and I would encourage you to switch as well. Plus, it
reduces our costs by eliminating mailing and the unnecessary waste of paper. For your convenience, a
“Deduction of Dues at Source” form was included on page 4. If you have any questions, or wish more
information, please call me at 544-0663.

Your membership is important to you and your association
