President’s Message
Spring 2007

GREETINGS:

       Now that we have started our 25th Anniversary Year, members should remain alert for coming announcements of various planned activities. The Anniversary Committee and Board Members have been working diligently on a number of events for members to gather at and celebrate. More to follow.

      I believe those members who came out for the enjoyable dinner and short meeting of Novembers AGM understand the difficulty in finding help to maintain the benefits derived by being a member of FSNA. I am glad to say a few members have stepped forward to offer assistance and we thank them for that. I am sure they will find one of a number of positions that will fit in their timetable. Remember, you have the right to attend board meetings (The third Thursday of the month) come out - it would be a
pleasure to meet you.

     I would like to thank all members who took up the challenge to contact their local MPP and tell him or her of our concern about possible changes to the Ontario Drug Benefit Plan that would have affected Federal Public Service Pensioners age 65 and over. Your efforts along with those of many other Ontario FSNA members, our National President and the Ottawa Office were instrumental in convincing the McGuinty government to reconsider its proposal. In December 2006, we received assurances the Ontario government has decided not to move forward with its plans.

Over time, and for various reasons, we’ve lost touch with several of our members and we are again turning to our membership for help. They may have moved and forgotten to notify us, gone into a retirement home or even passed on. For whatever reason, their mail is being returned to us and we’ve been unable to locate them. Listed below you will find the names and last known addresses of these members. If you have any information as to what might have happened to these folks, I would appreciate a note, phone call or e-mail message.

Thanks.

HELP! HELP! HELP!
Like the boll weevil, your branch is “Lookin’ for a home”
For some time now we have been renting a small office at the Commissionaires building in Kingston and using their boardroom for our monthly meetings. The Commissionaires have just advised they now require this space and we must vacate by the end of March 2007.
Our requirements are fairly simple:
       * Office space approximately 12’ X 12’ used mainly for storing files, FSNA brochures, etc;
       * Access to a boardroom or meeting space adequate for approximately 12-15 people;
       * Parking availability.
If any of our members can help, or know of where we might find such a facility, please contact us.
