President’s Message
Summer 2007

Greetings:
Ah, summer, that wonderful time of the year.  The time we all look forward to planting and making things grow.  Be assured your Board Members and I are also looking towards a productive summer.  Its time to finalize Branch Anniversary plans and prepare for the FSNA Triennial Convention.

The “Spring 07 Outreach” luncheon advertised in our spring report was a great success with one hundred and four members in attendance.  Watch for ones in your area.

Our Branch monthly meeting location has had to find a new home.  Fortunately, we secured an agreement with the Army, Navy, and Air Force club at 317 Gore Road.  For those who may have forgotten and wish to attend, meetings are the third Thursday of the month from 10 to 12 o’clock.  If you do show up you also have the opportunity to purchase lunch from the club kitchen.

Board Member Changes
Some changes have taken place since the last report.  Mr. Gilbert Wilcox has regretfully given up the Health and Benefits Portfolio due to illness.  To everyone’s relief the Past President, who previously held the position, graciously stepped forward to assume the task.

I was to step down as president as of June this year.  At the 2006 AGM, Mr. Doug Kellett had accepted to take over as Branch President at that time.  Unfortunately, for reasons beyond our control this will not happen.  After considering the situation, and with the help of the Vice President, I have decided to carry on as your President until the AGM to be held in November.

I have but one last request from all members, think about giving a few hours a month to your branch and volunteer to help at what ever you can and when ever you can.  Without volunteers, this branch will not be capable of giving the services it has to offer.  It is your branch, it is your choice if it lives or dies.  Like all the good things in summer, they grow with a little help and TLC.

I wish you all a wonderful summer and hope to have you join me at Branch meetings where we can be acquainted and enjoy the good fellowship of the FSNA.

Have your say

Summer is not yet here but we should be thinking ahead for topics that will make the "Fall Report" a document of interest and value to all our members.

Suggestions from every member is encouraged, however, one must keep in mind space limitations of the printed "Branch Report" may not let us use all suggestions received.

Suggested topics that cannot be included in the printed format could probably be of value on an expanded web site or as discussion topics for the Board of Directors.  Have your say by contacting any of the members of the board at any time…well within reason.

Vacations Planning

As you probably know FSNA has an “exclusive affinity program” for its Ontario members with Collette Travel. Details on the tours offered are posted on www.fsna.com and full details are available from www.collettevacations.ca. However, for those of us who would rather deal face to face with our vacation planner, Odyssey Travel in Kingston handles affairs for Collette Vacations in our area. The Manager is Julie Hoffarth and she can be reached at her office situated at 186 Princess St. in Kingston; by telephone at 613-549-3553 or by e-mail jhoffarth@odyssey-travel.com.

Important Notice

Your board of Directors has decided that when the membership at large is subsidizing a Branch activity, an outreach luncheon as an example, a non-subsidized cost would, henceforth, be applied to non-members wishing to attend when accompanied by a member in good-standing.  Let us all be forewarned…
