The Kingston Branch Report

President’s Message

Summer 2008

2008 - Annual General Meeting

Our AGM has come and gone for another year with what I feel was only moderate success.  Final attendance numbers were only in the 80’s.  Although disappointing, there may be several reasons for the low attendance:

  •  Our first AGM in April;
  •         Our second AGM within a few months; and
  •         Many members may not have returned from their winter nesting grounds in time to receive/return their notice.

At least that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Regrettably, due to a family emergency, I was personally unable to attend and I would like to thank my Vice-President, Barb, for filling in so ably on such short notice.  A big vote of thanks also to Ron, Luc and the others who helped make the evening a success.    (Should I be worried about my job???)

I would also like to commend the four individuals who stepped forward at the meeting and volunteered to assist as new board members.  Well done to Doris, Noel, Real and Walter.  It’s gratifying to the rest of us on the board to see some help.  It’s your branch, and we work hard to make it a successful branch.  Many hands make….. you know the story!

Summer BBQ

Our next branch social activity is the summer BBQ to be held on the 12th of August at Rideau Acres Campground. We’ve been there before and it’s always been a great success.  Look for the notice and the response form elsewhere in this report.  And please note also that because it’s a “Campground”, there are some different, special rules that apply.  Make sure to read the notice carefully and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me or one of your board members for clarification.

I look forward to meeting with you all on the 12th.

Regards,

          Ron Henderson

Hi Folks:  It’s BBQ time again and for our “Summer ’08 BBQ”
we’ve decided to return to one of our favourite places.

Rideau Acres Campground, 1014 Cunningham Rd., Kingston.

(Click on the name for a map)

Circle     Tuesday, August 12th      on your “important date” calendars:

  11:30 a.m.  Meet and Greet  . . . lunch at 12:00 noon

The menu will include your choice of steak or chicken, with potato salad, green salad, coleslaw, a light desert and tea or coffee.

A selection of cold, non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Cost will be $15.00 for members and 21.40 for non-members.

Don’t wait – !fill out your form right now !

Please indicate your menu choice and mail the response form below as soon as possible.

We must advise final numbers by the 9th of August.  Text Box: Please keep in mind; this is an outdoor activity, and dress appropriately for the weather.  There is a hall available should the weather be inclement, so it’s a go – rain or shine!   Although there are picnic tables available, I suggest you may also want to bring along a comfortable lawn chair.

Due to the fact we are on a campground, there will NOT be a bar available; however, if you wish, you may bring your own alcoholic beverage (that’s legal!!) or other cold beverage.

Rideau Acres Campground is located approximately 2 kilometres north of highway 401 on highway 15.  Turn west onto Cunningham Road, follow the road past the brown barn, turn left just past the duck pond and look for all the happy people!   (Click on the name for a map)

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT, Dues

This is a repeat but a necessary repeat. All those who pay their annual membership dues by cheque and missed the deadline for payment, which was December 31st , are reminded to please forward their cheque to the Branch address as soon as possible. There are still some 200 delinquents out there.

This is almost more important

As you all know we, your board, have been looking for, begging for and screaming for volunteers to come forward and lend a hand to assist in managing your affairs as a member of the board of directors of your branch. It turns out, we were not preaching totally in the desert. As noted by our president in his message on the front page, we have been blessed with four new members of the board: Doris Potter, who is our new treasurer, and three new directors-at-large: Walter Veley, Noel Coward and Real Prefontaine. Congratulations to all four.

This does not relieve the pressure on the rest of us. There is always something to do. Check our web page for some ideas of the skills we are always looking for.   Interested... try clicking here
