Winter 2006
Greetings:
Now that the 2006 Annual General Meeting (AGM) is over and we prepare to move into our Branch’s 25th Anniversary Year, members should focus on a few important matters.
Have the branch members noted the same names and familiar faces of our Branch Executives over the past number of years? What this Executive would like to bring to your attention is that the Board needs some fresh blood to take over the reins, you know, “to you from failing hands we throw the torch” sort of thing.
There is a real need for some of the younger, bilingual (French & English) members of our over 3000 membership to step up to the plate. By younger, we mean members in their early 60s. If you are interested, have no fear of what is expected of you. Should you decide to join us, you will receive training and all the assistance needed from the Branch Board Members.
If members are not willing to come forward and volunteer a few hours each month, membership may no longer have the ready knowledgeable assistance for Health and Benefits, Pension Information, Survivors Assistance, Travel Insurance and the other enquiries the Branch Executive and Directors receive and solve.
The above is for serious members to contemplate. Remember your few hours a month will benefit the many older members of our Branch.
It is your move.
If you would like to help to keep your branch moving forward, contact one of the Board members or attend one of the monthly meetings as an observer and ask questions before making your decision. Meetings are held at 737 Arlington Park Place, (Commissionaire’s building), Kingston every third Thursday of the month starting at 10:00 a.m.
In a lighter vein, the Executive wish to thank those of you who took advantage of attending the informative evening and the scrumptious dinner arranged by the Vice President of Operations Ron Henderson and his assistants. If you missed it, you missed an evening of camaraderie, and the making of new friends.
In past years, members of the Kingston and District Branch Board of Directors have attended Remembrance Day ceremonies, at the Cross of Sacrifice in Kingston, and have laid a wreath on behalf of all members of the branch.
This year, we made arrangements with the Lions Club of Odessa and District, to attend the Memorial Ceremonies in Wilton. The Wilton Memorial Ceremonies paid particular homage to the sacrifices made by Military Police and as a result there was a large Military Police presence.
Members of the branch were also welcome to attend these ceremonies. Following the service, they generously invited us to join them in the community hall in Odessa for refreshments and fellowship
Lost Contacts
Over time, and for various reasons, we’ve lost touch with several of our members and we are again turning to our membership for help. They may have moved and forgotten to notify us, gone into a retirement home or even passed on. For whatever reason, their mail is being returned to us and we’ve been unable to locate them. Listed below you will find the names and last known addresses of these members.
